Ziegler Park Expansion
The Ziegler Park Expansion is a $3.5 million initiative aimed at enhancing public safety and community engagement by vacating and repurposing Woodward Street and part of Yukon Street into pedestrian-friendly park space. The southern portion of Yukon Street will remain open for residential parking and emergency access.
Partnering with Human Nature, the project adds approximately 12,500 square feet to the park’s western edge, creating new opportunities for recreation, public art, and passive leisure. Planned features include a synthetic turf area for interactive games, as well as seven public art installations.
The street was transformed into a pedestrian-friendly area with concrete pavement, preserved historical granite curbs, street trees, and underground utilities. Enhancements include a large shaded canopy and raised crosswalks to promote pedestrian safety upon entering the park. The buildings alongside the park are mixed use, with some residents and a few small businesses, including a coffee shop with street seating.
The expansion was implemented in phases, beginning with the burial of utilities and followed by the installation of public art. The park already includes a pool and play area, and the new additions aim to further enrich the community experience.
