SUN Behavioral Health’s Northern Kentucky facility is a 155,043-square-foot, two-story treatment center dedicated to behavioral health and chemical dependency services. Located on a 13-acre site, the project required innovative site and landscape design to address complex environmental and infrastructure challenges, including stormwater management, Army Corps permitting, and coordination around a 90-inch sewer line and significant fill material. Bayer Becker provided comprehensive design solutions that supported the facility’s therapeutic mission while ensuring long-term site functionality.

The design features two secure interior courtyards—one for adults with a seating pavilion and varied seating, and one for children with safety surfacing and play equipment. Both include specialty concrete and therapeutic landscaping.

Two exterior atriums provide additional outdoor space for patients and staff, with covered patios, irrigated planters, and a multi-purpose lawn. The arrival plaza highlights a central fountain, colored concrete, and integrated seating and landscaping.

Bayer Becker also developed planting plans to meet zoning requirements and enhance the therapeutic environment, ensuring a cohesive, future-ready site through collaboration with regional stakeholders.
