Siemer Milling Company Whitewater Mill
Bayer Becker played a pivotal role in the successful development of Whitewater Mill, a state-of-the-art, seven-story wheat processing facility located in West Harrison, Indiana. The facility includes eight 150-foot-tall grain storage bins and produces approximately 700 tons of wheat-based products daily.
Given the site's location within a floodplain, significant elevation work was required. To address this challenge cost-effectively, Bayer Becker designed and implemented an on-site borrow pit. This feature not only provided the necessary fill material but was also engineered to manage sedimentation throughout construction. Post-construction, the borrow area was repurposed as a stormwater detention basin, enhancing the site's long-term sustainability.
The site's flat topography presented unique challenges for utility layout. Bayer Becker addressed these by upsizing several storm sewer runs to accommodate the required design flows. Our team also provided construction staking for over 500 concrete pilings, ensuring precise placement for the facility’s foundation. Additional services included a comprehensive Traffic Impact Study and coordination with Genesee & Wyoming Railroad for the design and permitting of two major stormwater culvert borings. Bayer Becker also designed a half-mile industrial rail spur to directly service the mill.
Today, Whitewater Mill stands as a fully automated, cutting-edge facility that supports the local agricultural economy and exemplifies innovative industrial site design.
