Old North Dayton Park
The Old North Dayton Park project aims to reimagine and enlarge an important gateway park in the Old North Dayton neighborhood, making it a greater asset to residents, businesses, and the Dayton Community. The passive park will be upgraded to highlight many existing memorial monuments, green space will be improved with new walking trails, and strolling gardens with seating opportunities will be provided to capitalize on river views. The addition of a new section of the park features colorful, engaging gathering spaces and improved access to the Mad River and downtown. The new active event space includes a music pavilion, great lawn, playground, terraced seating, and porch area atop the levee with views of the river and downtown. The existing bike path connects the two sides of the park, and a parking lot is planned for easier access to the trailhead.
As part of the design team, Bayer Becker worked with Human Nature to reimagine the space and its context within the Dayton landscape with goals to energize adjacent properties while complementing he recent Valley Road realignment. The enhanced urban park and open spaces are woven with the city fabric and provide accessible, walkable, and bicycle-friendly versatile connections.
Bayer Becker worked with Human Nature to refine the concept masterplan. The team assembled base mapping, reviewed the City’s zoning requirements, considered preliminary riparian and hillside issues improvements, and prepared preliminary opinion of costs based up on the conceptual design.
