To improve safety and traffic flow at a challenging offset intersection, a realignment project was undertaken at Matinee Boulevard and East Alexandria Pike at US 27 in Cold Spring, Kentucky. The project began with a detailed traffic evaluation to assess the potential benefits and impacts of aligning Matinee Boulevard with East Alexandria Pike. This analysis helped determine the most effective geometric configuration for the new intersection layout.

Based on the study’s findings, construction plans were developed for the relocation of Matinee Boulevard and the realignment of East Alexandria Pike, which previously intersected US 27 at a skewed angle. The redesign aimed to create a more efficient and safer intersection. Because the existing traffic signal at East Alexandria Pike and US 27 could not accommodate the new configuration, updated signalization plans were also prepared to support the revised traffic patterns.

This project, initiated by the City of Cold Spring, reflects a collaborative effort to enhance roadway safety and functionality through thoughtful planning, traffic analysis, and design.
