What once was the Silverton town hall and police station, is now a sustainable and eco-friendly establishment. HighGrain Brewery is leading the way in sustainability with features like adding insulation to the building for the first time, all LED lights, woodwork and tabletops made from sustainably harvested wood, and a seasonal menu that focuses on local and sustainable ingredients. By planting pollinator trees in the beer garden, they offset the carbon footprint from cultivating and shipping the grain. The electricity comes from a wind farm, and a high-efficiency geo-thermal HVAC system has been put in place. The taproom seats 50, with another 50 in the dining room, the outdoor deck has 20 seats, and the beer garden will have room for 30.

Bayer Becker’s design team collaborated with the architect to work around existing utilities and other site features. A key design consideration was to have ADA access to the building and the courtyard. By working with the Village of Silverton, we were able to successfully obtain a parking variance for the project, as well as utilize as much of the existing parking infrastructure as possible to minimize costs. The project received grants from Duke Energy, and the Village of Silverton.
