Hamilton Complete Streets
Bayer Becker contributed to the City of Hamilton’s Central Business District Traffic Study and Streetscape Improvement project by providing traffic engineering analysis and design services focused on enhancing mobility and safety along High Street, from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Erie Boulevard (SR 4).
As part of the traffic study, Bayer Becker evaluated key intersections along the corridor using Synchro traffic modeling software and traffic data provided by the City. The team also conducted AM and PM peak hour turning movement counts and trip generation calculations to better understand traffic patterns and demands.
Several improvement alternatives were considered, including medians, signal timing adjustments, additional turn lanes, movement restrictions, rear access roadways north and south of High Street, and driveway modifications. Bayer Becker’s analysis played a key role in shaping the preferred design concept for the corridor.
Building on this concept, Bayer Becker assisted in preparing construction drawings for the streetscape improvements along High Street, from the Jack Kirsch Underpass to Erie Boulevard. The scope included roadway pavement design, utility infrastructure, traffic signal improvements, and streetscape enhancements. Specific signal design work included new traffic signals at the intersections of High Street and 7th Street and East, as well as modifications to the existing signal at High Street and Erie Boulevard (SR 4).
