Fairfield Central and Compass Elementary
Fairfield’s school district undertook an ambitious project of constructing three new school buildings, prominently including Central Elementary School, which opened before the start of the 2017-2018 school year. Situated between the existing Freshman School and Fairfield’s football stadium, Central Elementary School posed unique challenges in site design. Bayer Becker addressed these complexities through a phased approach that ensured utility services remained operational throughout the construction process. The storm water management system for the site incorporated multiple dry wells rather than a conventional detention basin, reflecting a tailored and innovative solution to the site’s constraints. The multi-level facility replaced the previous Central Elementary School and showcased a careful integration of modern infrastructure with the needs of the surrounding area.
Compass Elementary School, another notable addition to the district's expansion, was designed with a focus on storm water management. Incorporating an on-site regional storm water detention basin, Bayer Becker supplemented this with the design of a new conventional detention basin, which enhanced drainage efficiency and prepared the site for environmental challenges.
Both schools exemplify Fairfield’s commitment to modernizing its educational facilities while addressing individual site constraints. Bayer Becker’s designs balanced functionality with environmental sustainability, ensuring the district's ambitious project met its goals seamlessly.
