Dawson Street Watermain Replacement
The City of Mason faced aging infrastructure and increasing maintenance concerns due to deteriorating cast iron water mains serving residential neighborhoods and a segment of US-Route 42. Complicating the project was the jurisdictional overlap—while the work was located within Mason, the water system was operated by Greater Cincinnati Water Works (GCWW), requiring close coordination between both entities. Bayer Becker was engaged to provide surveying and engineering services for the replacement of 3,259 linear feet of water main, navigating a complex environment of narrow streets, dense utility corridors, and strict design standards.
Our team designed a new ductile iron pipe distribution system to replace the existing 4” and 12” cast iron mains with upgraded 8” and 12” mains, respectively. The alignment had to be carefully threaded between existing gas, water, and sanitary sewer lines, maintaining required clearances within a constrained right-of-way. Bayer Becker adhered to GCWW’s stringent plan formatting and technical specifications, delivering a seamless and constructible design. Through creative problem-solving and detailed coordination, the project met all agency requirements while minimizing disruption to the surrounding community.
