Danville Parks Facilities
The Danville - Boyle County Parks and Recreation Department manages and maintains five parks and facilities, and provides recreational activities for the community. They have a strong focus on providing a positive environment for all area youth, regardless of their financial, social, or educational situation.
Bayer Becker is leading a team of experts who are providing comprehensive master planning and design services for various projects within the Danville Parks System, including the Jenny Rogers Community Center, Michael Smith Park, Millennium Park Expansion, and aquatic feasibility studies for three sites within the city. The team has crafted three alternative plans to re-energize Michael Smith Park, including an interactive water feature, and a concept of a Cultural Trail Loop that celebrates the rich history of Second Street, the riparian corridor of Clarks Run, and the historic significance of Town Branch.
The team has also developed conceptual designs for the Millennium Park District that connects the civic assets of Millennium Park, Boyle County High School, and the Boyle County Fairground. It was important to explore vehicular circulation, pedestrian connectivity, and leveraging existing structures to create a cohesive composition of proposed uses. The main focus centers on the tennis complex, which plans to include six tennis courts, seating in the shade, lighting, and a plaza, but the site is envisioned to accommodate a variety of active recreational amenities that complement Millennium Park and the high school campus. The City and design team continually engage the community to solicit feedback on the concepts.
