Common Ground Park

Common Ground Park is a one-of-a-kind destination designed to bring people of all abilities together through inclusive, interactive, and educational play. Commissioned by the Mason Parks and Recreation Foundation, the park was envisioned as a welcoming space where children and adults—regardless of physical or cognitive ability—can engage, connect, and explore side by side.

Bayer Becker collaborated closely with the Foundation Board and key stakeholders throughout the design process to deliver creative, user-focused solutions that reflect the Foundation’s mission. The team provided a comprehensive master plan that emphasized accessibility, ease of movement, and meaningful interaction across the entire park. Special attention was given to designing spaces that accommodate both active play and passive enjoyment, ensuring that all visitors feel included—whether participating directly or observing.

To support the park’s unique programming needs, Bayer Becker worked with furnishing manufacturers to develop custom structures that enhance accessibility and usability. The result is a thoughtfully designed environment that not only meets the functional needs of the community but also supports the Foundation’s broader goals in planning, fundraising, and public engagement.
