BCRTA Chestnut Street Multi-Modal Transfer Station
The Butler County Regional Transit Authority’s Chestnut Street Multi-Modal Station provides a one-stop transfer location for BCRTA services in Oxford, as well as connections to Middletown and Hamilton, OH. Located at the former Talawanda High School site, the station will include indoor and outdoor passenger waiting areas, public restrooms, bike storage, customer service facilities, bus maintenance and storage area, covered intermodal transfer bays, and a proposed Amtrak access.
Bayer Becker provided surveying, civil engineering, and landscape architecture services to support the highly coordinated, access-focused transit station. Surveying services for the project include a boundary and topographic survey of the project site, preparation of easement legal descriptions and exhibits for lease negotiations and utility as-built drawings for post-project records. Civil engineering services focused first and foremost on ensuring ADA accessibility and pedestrian safety, which were critical to the project’s success. These efforts shaped the site layout, informed vehicle turning and circulation decisions, and guided grading and utility design. The team also integrated stormwater management and low-impact development strategies, including rainwater harvesting, to create a functional and sustainable site.
Landscape architecture services enhanced the site’s identity and user experience through the design of walls, pedestrian-scale lighting, entry signage, decorative paving, and cohesive planting plans, reinforcing both wayfinding and placemaking goals. The project required a high level of collaboration with the City of Oxford, Miami University, and multiple consultants coordinating the design of the adjacent Amtrak station to ensure seamless integration across the broader site.
