John R. Green Redevelopment
This $38-million, 1.5-acre urban mixed-use development seamlessly integrates the adaptive reuse of the historic John R. Green building with new infill construction. The project includes 177 apartments and townhomes, 7,500 square feet of retail space, and a three-level parking structure. Each component required separate permitting, and the dense urban context—combined with the preservation of a historic structure—demanded careful coordination of site utilities and access. Bayer Becker also worked closely with SD1 to reroute roof downspouts on the historic building.
Bayer Becker’s landscape architecture team designed four amenity decks tailored to enhance the resident experience. Two private garden spaces serve adjacent units and feature pedestal pavers, planters, synthetic turf, and strategically placed trees for shade. A third deck includes a pool, grilling station, and pergola-covered seating. The fourth, located above the historic building’s clubhouse, offers a dynamic mix of amenities, including an elevated stage, gaming lawn, hammocks, fire pit, and decorative lighting. Additionally, our team collaborated with the City of Covington to design a streetscape that complements the surrounding urban fabric and materials.
