Project Highlight

The Kenton County Library is an example of Bayer Becker’s ability to provide site design solutions for a tight urban environment. Located in Covington, the 64,700 square foot library is surrounded by existing development as well as heavily travelled roadways on three sides. Design for the site included the removal of a loading dock and the introduction of sustainable design elements including rain gardens and porous pavers. The design was phased to allow the library to remain open during design and construction.

Drainage on the site was an important factor. The removal of a loading dock at the rear of the property and subsequent grading ensured successful drainage of the site. In addition to drainage, Bayer Becker’s successful grading allowed for the runoff to be directed towards rain gardens featured along the front of the site. Bayer Becker also worked with Sanitation District No. 1 on a combined sewer overflow which further improved water quality on the site. Porous pavers that help visually link the library to the adjacent Gateway Community College were also included in the overall design.

Bayer Becker is proud to have been providing design services in the City of Covington for over 20 years. This local experience, combined with our experience working for clients located outside of the immediate area, as Design Group is, ensured a successful project that fits with the City of Covington’s current development goals.

To ensure quality, Bayer Becker takes an interdisciplinary approach to the arrangement, appearance, and design where creativity meets functionality in all our municipal development projects.

Through interdisciplinary collaboration, Bayer Becker creates places that improve the quality of urban, ecological, and social environments.
