Bayer Becker has a long history performing services for the Northern Kentucky Water District (NKWD).  The Newman Avenue Water Main project is yet another example of our design expertise and cost saving capabilities.  As part of our project management a site visit was completed prior to design in order to identify potential conflicts and to select on initial alignment that woudl minimize those impacts, expedite construction and save dollars.  It was discovered that the new water main would need to be in close proximity to both gas lines and other utilities.    As a solution to the proximity issue, Bayer Becker suggested blocking the existing utilities to protect them during construction.  In addition to the utilities, retaining walls and utility poles were other obstacles along Newman Avenue.  It was also important to maintain water service during construction.  Bayer Becker worked with the NKWD to create a construction schedule to ensure the citizens in the area wouldn't be without water.  The project also marked one of the first times the NKWD started using corrosion monitoring test stations.  The stations, installed at fire hydrants, work to continually test and monitor the condition of the new mains after they have been installed. 

We work hard to control and maintain costs wherever we can.  For this project, as the main was constructed only select portions of the street were milled and repaved while others required only trench repair, thus saving the District time and money.  In the end our history with NKWD, familiarity with the area and its regulations, and our ability to offer multiple services under one roof, allowed us to deliver to the District and the city another project they they could be proud of and that they knew was designed to last.
